Title: Dr. Glenda Goodman Early American Music Campus Residency
The purpose of this application is to secure funding to bring musicologist and historian Dr. Glenda Goodman (Assistant Professor, University of Pennsylvania) to the University of Utah to lead a seminar session on the role of music in the development of national identity in the early American Republic; to give an interdisciplinary public lecture on an associated topic; and to advise faculty on the inclusion of related material in courses that address colonial American history.
----------
A grant from the Council of Dee Fellows allowed me to bring musicologist and historian Dr. Glenda Goodman (Assistant Professor, University of Pennsylvania) to the University of Utah in September 2017 for a residency in early American music. While on campus, Dr. Goodman completed the following activities:
14 September:
- taught a session of Dr. Catherine Mayes's special topics seminar (MUSC 6890/7890: Music and National Identity) on music in the early American Republic
- advised Drs. Catherine Mayes, Jane Hatter, and Elizabeth Craft about the inclusion of early American music and related material in existing musicology courses offered at the University of Utah
15 September:
- met informally with graduate students in Dr. Catherine Mayes's office to discuss their work on American music
- gave a public lecture in the School of Music's Fridqys with Faculry colloquium series
Thank you for your support of this project.
